INSTALLATION

Download and Install Java Tools

Note: This procedure describes how to download and install two Install Java Tools archive files. The first installs only Java Tools. The second installs Java Tools and the source code for Edit, Java Tools and J2EE Tools.
  1. Create the download directory if you haven't already:

    1. Click Start | My Computer on the Windows taskbar.
    2. Double click the Local Disk (C:) drive in the My Computer window.
    3. Click File | New | Folder.
    4. Change New Folder in the box to Downloads then press the Enter key.
    5. Click X in the top right corner of the My Computer window.
  2. Select the Install Java Tools archive file:

    1. Click Install Java Tools Archive File to select the other Install Java Tools archive file.
  3. Download the Install Java Tools archive file:

    1. Verify that InstallJavaTools0.58.jar appears in the Name field in the File Download dialog.
    2. Click Save.
    3. Click Up One Level until the Local Disk (C:) drive appears in the Save in field in the Save As dialog.
    4. Double click the Downloads directory.
    5. Click Save.
    6. Click Yes in the second Save As dialog if you're replacing the file.
    7. Wait until the download completes (this may take several minutes).
    8. Click Close in the Download Complete dialog.
  4. Verify that the Install Java Tools archive file was downloaded correctly:

    1. Click Start | My Computer on the Windows taskbar.
    2. Double click the Local Disk (C:) drive in the My Computer window.
    3. Double click the Downloads directory.
    4. Right click the InstallJavaTools0.58.jar file then click Properties in the popup menu.
    5. Verify that 327,891 bytes appears in the Size field in the Properties dialog.
    6. Click X in the top right corner of the Properties dialog.
    7. Click X in the top right corner of the My Computer window.
  5. Install the Install Java Tools archive file:
    Note: You can install a new or updated version of Java Tools without uninstalling the old one first (steps 9 through 15 below). Also, you should change the environment settings by reinstalling Java Tools to ensure that the settings are changed everywhere. Finally, if you have any problems with the steps below, see Troubleshooting Problems for help.
    1. Click Start | My Computer on the Windows taskbar.
    2. Double click the Local Disk (C:) drive in the My Computer window.
    3. Double click the Downloads directory.
    4. Double click the InstallJavaTools0.58.jar file.
    5. Wait until the Install Java Tools window appears.
    6. Click the Java Home Directory box in the Install Java Tools window then click C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.8.0 in the popup list.
    7. Click the Download Home Directory box then click C:\Downloads (default).
    8. Click the Installation Directory box then click C:\fieldbird (default).
    9. Click File | Uninstall.
    10. Click Yes in the Confirm dialog to uninstall Java Tools.
    11. If asked, click Yes in the Confirm dialog to delete image files or No to save them.
    12. If asked, click Yes in the Confirm dialog to delete sound files or No to save them.
    13. If asked, click Yes in the Confirm dialog to delete source files or No to save them.
    14. Wait until the uninstall completes.
    15. Click OK in the Information dialog when the uninstall completes.
    16. Click File | Install.
    17. Click Yes in the Confirm dialog to install Java Tools.
    18. Wait until the install completes.
    19. Click OK in the Information dialog when the install completes.
    20. Click X in the top right corner of the Install Java Tools window.
    21. Click X in the top right corner of the My Computer window.
