TROUBLESHOOTING PROBLEMS

  1. Windows cannot open this file appears in a Windows dialog when you double click the InstallJ2EETools.jar file in the My Computer window.

    1. The Java SE Runtime Environent isn't installed on your computer. Download and install the latest version of the Java SE Runtime Environment (see Edit Download and Install Java Runtime Environment).
    2. The Java archive file type isn't registered on your computer. Register the Java archive file type (see Edit Troubleshooting Problems).
  2. Unknown command wscript appears in an Error dialog when you click Uninstall or Install in the Install J2EE Tools window.
    Windows Script Host isn't installed on your computer. Download and install Windows Script Host Version 5.6 (see Download Windows Script Host).
  3. A Norton AntiVirus Alert dialog appears when you click Uninstall or Install in the Install J2EE Tools window.
    The Delete and Create Shortcut scripts aren't authorized to run on your computer. Authorize the Delete and Create Shortcut scripts:

    1. Click the Action box in the Alert dialog then click Authorize this script in the popup list.
    2. Click OK.
  4. The J2EE Tools windows doesn't appear when you double click the J2EE Tools shortcut on the Windows desktop.
    J2EE Tools isn't installed properly on your computer. Redownload and install J2EE Tools (see Download and Install J2EE Tools).
  5. The mouse isn't working properly in any J2EE Tools window.
    This may happen when you're using the mouse scroll wheel. When this happens, the control keys still work even though the mouse doesn't. To recover, simply press down on the mouse scroll wheel and release it.
  6. All the boxes in the J2EE Tools window are blank.
    The Java EE Version 1.6.0 Tutorial isn't installed on your computer. Download the Java EE Version 1.6.0 Tutorial archive file (see Download and Install J2EE Add-ons), reinstall J2EE Tools (see Download and Install J2EE Tools), and install the Java EE Version 1.6.0 Tutorial archive file and the Java EE Version 1.6.0 Tutorial examples (see Install Java and J2EE Archive Files).
  7. The Build Target box in the J2EE Tools window is blank when the Build File Box contains build.xml.
    You created a project build file that contains an error or includes a properties build file or targets build file that contains an error.
  8. The Build Target box in the J2EE Tools window doesn't contain all the build targets, e.g. the deploy, list and undeploy build targets are missing when the Project Directory box contains jaxrpc and the Application Directory box contains common.
    The latest Java EE Version 1.6.0 project archive file isn't installed on your computer. Reinstall J2EE Tools (see Download and Install J2EE Tools) and install the latest Java EE Version 1.6.0 project archive file (see Install Java and J2EE Archive Files).
  9. Your browser starts when you start the J2EE server.
    Your browser is set to automatically dial the Internet. If you're using the Internet Explorer, double click the Internet Explorer shortcut. Click Tools | Internet Options in the Internet Explorer window. Click the Connections tab in Internet Options dialog. Click Never dial a connection in the Connections tab. Click Apply and then click OK. Note that this won't interfere with the normal operation of your browser.
  10. Cannot write the seed file for fast startup appears when you start the J2EE server.
    You don't have write access in the J2EE home directory. Login as the Administrator on Windows or as root on Linux, or install J2EE in your home directory (see Download and Install J2EE Software Development Kit and Sun Java System Application Server).
  11. java.exe.exe is not recognized as an internal or external command appears in the Run Application Client window when you click Tools | Run | Application Client.
    You're probably using OGS Version 3.1 which contains a bug in the appclient CLIBootstrap command. Until this is fixed you should use the following workaround:

    1. Open the Command Prompt window.
    2. Type cd "Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0\bin" and press the Enter key.
    3. Type copy java.exe java.exe.exe and press the Enter key.
    4. Close the Command Prompt window.
  12. Directory isn't writable appears in an Error dialog when you click Install in the J2EE Tools window.
    If you're using Windows Vista, user access control (UAC) may prevent you from installing files in the Java home directory even though you're the administrator. To turn user access control off:

    1. Click Start in the taskbar.
    2. Click Control Panel in the start menu.
    3. Click User Accounts and Family Safety in the Control Panel window.
    4. Click User Accounts.
    5. Click Turn User Account Control on or off.
    6. Click Continue in the User Access Control dialog.
    7. Click Use User Account Control to help protect your computer.
    8. Click OK.
    9. Click Restart Now in the Windows dialog.

    After you've finished the install, be sure to turn user access control on again.
  13. You don't know what the editor window navigation keys are.
