INSTALLATION

Download and Install J2EE Software Development Kit and Sun Java System Application Server

Note: You must install the J2SE Version 1.4.2_10 or Java SE 1.5.0_06 Software Development Kit (see Download and Install Java Software Development Kit) before you install the J2EE Version 1.4 Software Development Kit and Sun Java System Application Server.
  1. Create the download directory if you haven't already:

    1. Click Start | My Computer on the Windows taskbar.
    2. Double click the Local Disk (C:) drive in the My Computer window.
    3. Click File | New | Folder.
    4. Change New Folder in the box to Downloads then press the Enter key.
    5. Click X in the top right corner of the My Computer window.
  2. Download the J2EE Version 1.4 Software Development Kit and Sun Java System Application Server executable file:

    1. Scroll to Download the SDK Components Independently.
    2. Click Download to the right of Sun Java System Application Server Platform Edition 8.2.
    3. Click Accept License Agreement.
    4. Click Sun Java System Application Server Platform Edition 8.2 to the left of sjsas_pe-8_2-windows.exe.
    5. Click Save in the File Download dialog then click OK.
    6. Verify that sjsas_pe-8_2-windows.exe appears in the File Name field in the Save As dialog.
    7. Click Up One Level until the Local Disk (C:) drive appears in the Save In field.
    8. Double click the Downloads directory.
    9. Click Save.
    10. Wait until the download completes (this may take several minutes depending on the speed of your internet connection).
    11. Click Close in the Download Complete dialog.
    12. Click X in the top right corner of the browser window.
  3. Verify that the J2EE Version 1.4 Software Development Kit and Sun Java System Application Server executable file was downloaded correctly:

    1. Click Start | My Computer on the Windows taskbar.
    2. Double click the Local Disk (C:) drive in the My Computer window.
    3. Double click the Downloads directory.
    4. Right click the sjsas_pe-8_2-windows.exe executable file then click Properties in the popup menu.
    5. Verify that 45,501,313 bytes appears the Size field in the Properties dialog.
    6. Click X in the top right corner of the Properties dialog.
    7. Click X in the top right corner of the My Computer window.
  4. Uninstall the current J2EE Version 1.4 Software Development Kit and Sun Java System Application Server:

    1. Click Start | Control Panel on the Windows taskbar.
    2. Double click Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel window.
    3. Click Sun Java System Application Server Platform Edition in the Add or Remove Programs window then click Change/Remove.
    4. Click Next in the Welcome dialog.
    5. Click Uninstall Now in the Ready to Uninstall dialog.
    6. Wait until the uninstall completes (this may take several minutes).
    7. Click Close in the Uninstallation Summary dialog.
    8. Click X in the top right corner of the Add or Remove Programs window.
    9. Click X in the top right corner of the Control Panel window.
  5. Verify that the following directories in the J2EE Version 1.4 Software Development Kit and Sun Java System Application Server were deleted:

    1. Click Start | My Computer on the Windows taskbar.
    2. Double click the Local Disk (C:) drive in the My Computer window.
    3. Double click the Sun directory.
    4. Double click the AppServer directory.
    5. Right click the bin directory then click Delete in the popup menu.
    6. Click Yes in the Confirm Folder Delete dialog.
    7. Wait until the delete completes.
    8. Right click the bin.save directory then click Delete in the popup menu.
    9. Click Yes in the Confirm Folder Delete dialog.
    10. Wait until the delete completes.
    11. Click X in the top right corner of the My Computer window.
  6. Install the J2EE Version 1.4 Software Development Kit and Sun Java System Application Server executable file:

    1. Click Start | My Computer on the Windows taskbar.
    2. Double click the Local Disk (C:) drive in the My Computer window.
    3. Double click the Downloads directory.
    4. Double click the sjsas_pe-8_2-windows.exe executable file.
    5. Click Next in the Welcome dialog.
    6. Click Yes in the Software License Agreement dialog then click Next.
    7. Verify that C:\Sun\AppServer appears in the Installation Directory field in the Select Installation Directory dialog then click Next.
    8. Verify that C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0 appears in the Java 2 SDK Location field in the Java 2 SDK Required dialog then click Next.
    9. Verify that admin appears in the Administration User Name field in the Administration Configuration dialog.
    10. Click the Password field then type admin123.
    11. Click the Re-enter Password field then type admin123.
    12. Click Don't Prompt for Administration User Name.
    13. Verify that 4848 appears in the Administration Port field.
    14. Verify that 8080 appears in the HTTP Port field.
    15. Verify that 8181 appears in the HTTPS Port field.
    16. Click Next in the Administration Configuration dialog.
    17. Click Next in the Installation Options dialog.
    18. Click Install Now in the Ready to Install dialog.
    19. Wait until the install completes (this may take several minutes).
    20. Click Finish in the Installation Complete dialog.
    21. Wait until Sun Java System Application Server Platform Edition 8.2 appears in the browser window.
    22. When done browsing, click X in the top right corner of the browser window.
    23. Click X in the top right corner of the My Computer window.
