Edit - Lightweight Text Editor

Windows cannot open this file appears in a Windows dialog when you double click the InstallEdit.jar file in the My Computer window.
1. The Java SE Runtime Environent isn't installed on your computer. Download and install the latest version of the Java SE Runtime Environment (see Download and Install Java Runtime Environment).
2. The Java archive file type isn't registered on your computer. Register the Java archive file type:
  1. Click Start | Control Panel on the Windows taskbar.
  2. Double click Folder Options in the Control Panel window.
  3. Click the File Types tab in the Folder Options dialog.
  4. Click New.
  5. Click the File Extension field in the Create New Extension dialog then type JAR and click OK.
  6. Click Advanced in the Folder Options dialog.
  7. Click New in the Edit File Type dialog.
  8. Click the Action field in the New Action dialog and type Open.
  9. Click the Application used to perform action field and type "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0\bin\javaw.exe" -jar "%1" %*.
  10. Click Use DDE.
  11. Click the Application field and type javaw.
  12. Click the Topic field and type System.
  13. Click OK.
  14. Click OK in the Edit File Type dialog.
  15. Click Close in the Folder Options dialog.

Unknown command wscript appears in an Error dialog when you click Uninstall or Install in the Install Edit window.

Windows Script Host isn't installed on your computer. Download and install Windows Script Host Version 5.6 (see Download Windows Script Host).
A Norton AntiVirus Alert dialog appears when you click Uninstall or Install in the Install Edit window.
The Delete and Create Shortcut scripts aren't authorized to run on your computer. Authorize the Delete and Create Shortcut scripts:
1. Click the Action box in the Alert dialog then click Authorize this script in the popup list.
2. Click OK.

The Edit windows doesn't appear when you double click the Edit shortcut on the Windows desktop.

Edit isn't installed properly on your computer. Redownload and install Edit (see Download and Install Edit).
The mouse isn't working properly in the Edit window.

Java SE Version 1.4.0 Runtime Environent or later is installed on your computer and you're using the mouse scroll wheel. To recover, simply press down on the mouse scroll wheel and release it. Note that when this happens, the control keys still work even though the mouse doesn't.
The mouse scroll wheel doesn't work in the Edit window.

Java SE Version 1.4.0 Runtime Environent or later isn't installed on your computer. Download and install the latest version of the Java SE Runtime Environment (see Download and Install Java Runtime Environment).
The line number doesn't appear on the blank line at the end of a text file.

This is a bug in Java SE Version 1.3.1 Runtime Environent that's fixed in Version 1.4.0. Download and install the latest version of the Java SE Runtime Environment (see Download and Install Java Runtime Environment).
The tool tip doesn't appear when you hold the mouse over Help or when you click Help and hold the mouse over About.
