INSTALLATION

Download and Install Edit

  1. Create the download directory if you haven't already:

    1. Click Start | My Computer on the Windows taskbar.
    2. Double click the Local Disk (C:) drive in the My Computer window.
    3. Click File | New | Folder.
    4. Change New Folder in the box to Downloads then press the Enter key.
    5. Click X in the top right corner of the My Computer window.
  2. Download the Install Edit archive file:

    1. Verify that InstallEdit0.44.jar appears in the Name field in the File Download dialog.
    2. Click Save.
    3. Click Up One Level until the Local Disk (C:) drive appears in the Save in field in the Save As dialog.
    4. Double click the Downloads directory.
    5. Click Save.
    6. Click Yes in the second Save As dialog if you're replacing the file.
    7. Wait until the download completes (this may take several minutes).
    8. Click Close in the Download Complete dialog.
  3. Verify that the Install Edit archive file was downloaded correctly:

    1. Click Start | My Computer on the Windows taskbar.
    2. Double click the Local Disk (C:) drive in the My Computer window.
    3. Double click the Downloads directory.
    4. Right click the InstallEdit0.44.jar file then click Properties in the popup menu.
    5. Verify that 186,152 bytes appears in the Size field in the Properties dialog.
    6. Click X in the top right corner of the Properties dialog.
    7. Click X in the top right corner of the My Computer window.
  4. Install the Install Edit archive file:
    Note: You can install a new or updated version of Edit without uninstalling the old one first (steps 9 through 12 below). Also, you should change the environment settings by reinstalling Edit to ensure that the settings are changed everywhere. Finally, if you have any problems with the steps below, see Troubleshooting Problems for help.
    1. Click Start | My Computer on the Windows taskbar.
    2. Double click the Local Disk (C:) drive in the My Computer window.
    3. Double click the Downloads directory.
    4. Double click the InstallEdit0.44.jar file.
    5. Wait until the Install Edit window appears.
    6. Click the JRE Home Directory box in the Install Edit window then click C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0 in the popup list.
    7. Click the Installation Directory box then click C:\fieldbird (default).
    8. Click the User Directory box then click C:\ (default).
    9. Click File | Uninstall.
    10. Click Yes in the Confirm dialog to uninstall Edit.
    11. Wait until the uninstall completes.
    12. Click OK in the Information dialog when the uninstall completes.
    13. Click File | Install.
    14. Click Yes in the Confirm dialog to install Edit.
    15. Wait until the install completes.
    16. Click OK in the Information dialog when the install completes.
    17. Click X in the top right corner of the Install Edit window.
    18. Click X in the top right corner of the My Computer window.
